Academic Director & HoS (M&HS)

Dear Gateway School Community,

It is both an honor and a joy to introduce myself to you as the new Academic Director and Head of Stage for Middle & High School. My name is Cherine Ahmed Kamal, and I am delighted to join this inspiring community as we work together to shape a future of excellence, well-being, and meaningful learning for every student.

My career in education spans almost thirty years, during which I have served in diverse international schools and guided teams across multiple academic pathways. Throughout this journey, I have led academic divisions, supported school accreditation, strengthened teaching and learning, and helped institutions evolve into more coherent, mission-driven environments. My leadership experience includes overseeing both the American curriculum and the full International Baccalaureate continuum, allowing me to understand deeply how these pathways complement one another when aligned with clarity and purpose.

Beyond my school-based leadership roles, I am fortunate to serve the International Baccalaureate in several professional capacities. As an IB Educator Network (IBEN) member, I support schools internationally as a Consultant, Visiting Team Member, Visiting Team Leader, and Programme Leader, accompanying institutions on their authorization and evaluation journeys. I also work within IB assessment as a Diploma Programme Examiner and Team Leader, contributing to global standardization, examiner development, and consistency of assessment practices worldwide. These roles have enabled me to collaborate with schools across different cultures and contexts, giving me a wide perspective on what truly elevates learning, empowers teachers, and sustains strong academic performance.

What has guided me throughout these years is a simple conviction: education is an act of transformation. I believe in schools where students feel safe, valued, and intellectually alive; where teachers are supported, trusted, and inspired; where families are welcomed as true partners. I believe in standards and expectations that challenge without overwhelming, and in systems that bring coherence rather than complexity. Most of all, I believe in the power of a shared vision, one that aligns hearts, habits, and hopes in service of our learners.

At Gateway, I look forward to bringing this philosophy to life. My commitment is to strengthen academic alignment across the American and IB programs and ensure that every student is prepared not only for university, but for the responsibilities and opportunities of a global future. I am excited to collaborate with our coordinators and teachers, to support their growth, to celebrate their strengths, and to create structures that help them thrive professionally and as a team.

During my first weeks here, I will be dedicating time to listening and observing, to understanding the culture that defines Gateway, the aspirations of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the expectations of our parent community. I begin this role with gratitude, humility, and tremendous enthusiasm. Together, I am confident we can continue to nurture a school where curiosity flourishes, learning is meaningful, and every student is empowered to succeed.

I look forward to meeting each of you and to building strong, positive relationships across our community. My door will always remain open, and I welcome every conversation that helps us move forward with unity and purpose.
